Abstract:
This paper systematically examines the current state of standardization for tubular cored electrodes used in electrogas welding(EGW) both domestically and internationally. It focuses on interpreting and comparing the independently developed Chinese national standard GB/T 45857—2025, “Flux-Cored Wires for Gas Metal Arc Welding” . As a highly efficient automated welding process, EGW is extensively applied in thick-plate welding. Therefore, the standardization of its specialized tubular cored electrodes is crucial for industry development. Comparative analysis with AWS A5.26 and JIS Z 3319 standards reveals that Chinese national standard demonstrates technical distinctiveness in multiple aspects: The scope of application is clearly defined as tubular cored electrodes with a tensile strength of no less than 430MPa with or without gas shield. The classification designation system is more comprehensive, integrating multiple information elements such as mechanical properties, welding process, and welding positions; Chemical composition designation requirements are scientifically rational, which optimizes weldability by controlling Mn content and adding elements like Ni, Ti, and Mo. Mechanical property requirements cover four strength grades and a broader impact test temperature range, better aligning with domestic practical needs. Test methods are detailed, particularly providing scientific definitions for sampling locations. Testing result confirms the new standard effectively covers and regulates existing market products, and all technical indicators are set reasonably. The formulation of this standard has achieved a breakthrough from nothing to something. It not only provides norms for the development of domestic industries, but also the development of its English version will promote Chinese standards to go international. This research is conducive to relevant enterprises and users' in-depth understanding of the standard content and promotes the implementation of the standard.
