The effect of Te-Bi content on the chill of alloy cast iron reference samples

Abstract: In the preparation of alloyed cast iron reference materials, obtaining a white iron microstructure is essential for guaranteeing accurate and consistent chemical analysis. Due to their potent anti-graphitization capabilities, the chilling elements Tellurium (Te) and Bismuth (Bi) are widely used to promote the transition to a wholly white iron structure during production. Using an alloyed cast iron , this study examines how different amounts of Te-Bi mixtures affect the formation of the fully white structure. Finally, it was concluded that with a carbon equivalent (CE) of 4.65%, a complete white iron structure is achieved under the ratio of 0.04%Te+0.06%Bi, providing practical guidance and a theoretical basis for industrial-scale production of these reference materials.
