Research on the Current Status of High-Frequency Brazing Applications for Steel and Cemented Carbide Materials

Abstract: Saw blades are used for cutting various hard materials, consisting of a substrate and cutting teeth bonded together through brazing. The substrate is typically made of steel, while the teeth are fabricated from cemented carbide. Due to the low toughness of cemented carbide, it is often welded to structural steel for use. High-frequency brazing, based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, offers advantages such as rapid heating and a minimal heat-affected zone, making it highly suitable for saw blade welding. This paper primarily addresses saw blades used for industrial metal cutting, focusing on the application of high-frequency brazing in joining dissimilar materials—specifically steel and cemented carbide. It analyzes the impact on brazing quality by examining factors such as the melting point and wettability of brazing filler metal, the reaction of alloying elements at the interface, the microstructure of the joint, and the strength and mechanical properties of the joint.
