An investigation on the manufacture process of the new-type Al-CS clad plate

  • In this paper,aluminum alloy and carbon steel were joined by explosive welding technology.It is a new-type Al/CS clad material.After explosive welding,the appearance of the clad plate is intact,on which no defects such as burning and wrinkles were detected.The penetration inspect results showed that the aluminum alloy and carbon steel were cladded well,and no defects such as delamination and cracks were detected.Microstructure and mechanical property tests were employed to evaluate their bonding quality of the clad plates.The experimental results show that the interface between aluminum alloy and steel material shows a wavy bonding,uniform and without departures,but there are some intermittent melting blocks at the front of the wave peak,and some melting blocks have cracks inside.The mechanical property test results show that the average shear strength of the clad plate is 74MPa,which meets the standard requirements.The bending test results indicate that there is no departure or crack in the interface of the clad plate.It indicates the bonding quality of the cald plate is good.Therefore,the new-type of Aal/CS clad plate can meet the requirement of engineering use.
