Research on a process to effectively improve the yield of δ0.5mm pure titanium strip

  • Abstract:The quality of ingots has a significant impact on the yield and cost of the processed materials. This article focuses on optimizing the finished melting process of 15T ingots to enhance the surface quality of the ingots, reduce porosity and cold shut defects. Subsequently, the ingots are processed using two different machining techniques. The processed ingots undergo identical processes, including forging, milling, hot rolling, pickling and cold rolling, to produce finished strip material with a thickness of 0.5mm. The surface quality, mechanical properties and grain size of the finished strip materials from two processes are tested. The results indicate that the strip materials from both Process 1 and Process 2 meet the ASTM B265-15 standard and customer’s requirements. Additionally, the overall yield of Process 2 is 4.79% higher than that of Process 1, indicating that adopting the process route of Process 2 can effectively improve the yield while ensuring the product quality.
