Comparative Analysis and Parameter Optimization of Additive Repair Process for Camshaft of Internal Combustion Engine

  • This study conducted a comparative analysis of coatings formed by additive remanufacturing processes such as brush plating, thermal spraying, alloy iron plating, and laser cladding, focusing on their metallographic structure, hardness, and fatigue resistance. The results indicate that laser cladding is more suitable for the additive repair of camshafts compared to other processes. The material selection and process parameters were further optimized. The Fe-based alloy powder coating (with a hardness of approximately HRC 58.3) demonstrated wear resistance about twice that of the original camshaft material, making it the most suitable cladding material for camshaft remanufacturing. The optimal laser cladding parameters were determined as follows: laser power of 1000 W, scanning speed of 600 mm/min, powder feeding rate of 1.2 r/min, and overlap rate of 50%.
