Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of 23MnNiMoCr54 chain steel Linear Friction Welding Joint

Abstract
In this paper, the linear friction welding process of 23MnNiMoCr54 mining chain link steel was studied. Joint appearance and structure were analyzed, tensile and impact performance was carried out, fracture morphology was observed. Results show that linear friction welding can realized the welding of 23MnNiMoCr54 steel, the flash is smooth .the tensile and impact properties of joints are better than base metal . Four obvious zones was observed in the joint, that is the base metal(BM), heat affected zone(HAZ), thermal mechanical affect zone(TMAZ),welding zone(WZ). The parent matertials is granular bainite organization, HAZ consists of lath-like martensite and bainite, dynamic recrystallization occurred in the weld zone, the grain interior is lath martensite organization. Both tensile fracture of joints and base metal are in the form of a tough dimple morphology, the impact fracture of base metal is quasi cleavage fracture which is related with M/A structure, but the joint fracture morphology is different, it presents ductile dimples because of recrystallization .
