Research on the Manufacturing Process of Arc Additive Molding for Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel

  • Based on the arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) capability of the company's CMT robotic flexible welding system for, this research aims to achieve as-cast blank production for precipitation-hardening stainless steel via WAAM to reduce waste resulting from high material removal rates in parts. Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) arc additive manufacturing employs an arc as the heat source, with welding stick X-1 serving as the filling material. Droplets are layered on the baseplate by a cold metal transition process for 3D shaping technology. This study primarily focuses on using a certain type of welding precipitation-hardening stainless steel stick X-1 as the research object material, and preparing high-strength and high-toughness laminar structural components inspired by the nacreous structure of shells. Test data such as tensile strength, impact toughness, elongation, hardness distribution, and microstructure have been obtained from the arc additive manufacturing specimens made with this wire, providing theoretical data support for estimating the strength of the welds produced using this wire for arc additive manufacturing.
