Study on the microstructure of SiCf/TiAl composite materials prepared by foil metallurgy method

  • SiCf/TiAl composite was prepared by hot pressing alternative Ti foil/Al foil/SiC fiber in vacuum at650℃×5h+1000℃×3h+1320℃×2h.A fully lamellar microstructure in the matrix and reactions at the interface of fiber and matrix are observed.Ear-like holes exist at the matrix/fiber/matrix interface.The interfacial phases from the fiber to the matrix,are SiC|TiC|Ti3SiC2|Ti5Si3|Ti5(Si,Al)3+Ti2AlC|γ|α2/γ colony,accordingly.The phases formation mechanism are explained from views of kinetics,dynamics and crystallography.
