Abstract:
The 6082-T6 extruded profiles widely used in industrial applications are selected for this study. The FSW(friction stir welding) is adopted, and the properties of weld joints between the profiles with specification of 7mm are studied by selecting different process parameters. The results shown that the properties of weld joints are sensitive to welding parameters. When the rotating speed of the stirring head is 1500r/min and the welding speed is(550±50)mm/min, good welding formation can be achieved on the joint surface, the tensile strength and yield strength of the joint are≥70% of the standard value, and no crack is identified on the bending specimen. When the rotating speed is increased or the welding speed is decreased, fins during the welding process are increased, and poor welding quality is identified on the joint surface, even groove defects are identified. When the rotating speed is reduced or the welding speed is increased, good surface formation can be achieved, however, the joint properties were decreased.
